looking for a new place Sept 1st

Hey there folks-

I am looking for a new place to live in September & I'm not having much luck/doing a good enough job. Does anyone in the Boston area know of people looking for a roommate? My upper limit is 750 right now. I'm trying not to freak out.

Must be T accessible
Pets are fine
I don't smoke
Chore wheels are great
3 or 4 roommates is lovely
I'm a fake extrovert - very friendly, likes people, needs alone time
38 year old woman

Uh...let me know if you know of any leads.

Thanks,
farwing

Somerville Open Studios April 29, 30, & May 1st

I recently joined And/Or, an arts collective located at 35 Kidder Ave, Somerville, right down the street from my old location. It’s #13 on the Somerville Open Studios map, and a short walk from Davis Square. It’s a wonderful group of artists and I’m really excited to display my work along side theirs.

We are also open on Friday night April 29th 6pm-9pm as a sort of preview although I might be running around in a panic. I’ve never been open Friday night before so that will be new.

My work can be viewed here:

The link to And/Or is here:

I really hope to see some of you Boston-area folks! :)

Well fuck. My mom's oldest sister R, who hasn't spoken to her in decades for unknown reasons, is dying. And has been very sick since June but my mom's cousin E didn't tell her anything until just now. Which is pretty fucked up. I mean my mom is greatful that R had someone to visit her in the hospital but...My mom is pretty upset and we were talking on the phone & and she was like "I never expected any reconciliation but I did expect her to live into her 90s so could hate me for longer." :( my poor mommy. Ugh.

She also said "Even if you hate someone, keep talking to them."

I love my mom a lot you guys I hate that she feels like there's something wrong with her bc people leave her out of the loop & stop talking to her for decades without telling her why...

So. Yesterday I had a customer come in, buy lunch & then talk my ear off about her health problems. All fine & good I've been known to talk the ears off strangers so I'm really ok with listening to other people. The lady was dressed like she'd come from PT which she had -- leggings, a sweatshirt etc. looked comfy. Then in comes this woman in her 60s very thin, very rich. And while the lady I'd been talking with got up to get a soda from the drink cooler about 5 feet away this rich lady says to me:

"Oh, her. She's always asking people for money. She makes you feel sorry for her & then she follows you around. She's been banned from several stores downtown."

And I as like: "She's right there. Behind you."

Horrible rich lady: "I know. But I needed to tell you. She steals things."

And I wanted to say: even if this is the case, why are you telling me this in this way? I am so very uncomfortable right now and of the two of you I'd like to kick you out more. But I thanked her for telling me.

But seriously-- the first woman could be some sort of con artist or shoplifter but a) she bought her lunch & was fine with me & I will keep my eyes open etc but b) the super nasty lady made me want to punch her in her mean pinched face. Like, why do people do this? If you need to tell me something like that don't do it when the person in question is standing behind you! It's rude & horrible & it made me want to sink through the floor.

And then I stayed late to help my boss S with a thing & we had to drop her dogs off at a dog sitter before she gave me a ride home & the dog sitter's dog bit one of S's dogs! So I got to hold a bloody towel to the back of the dog's neck while S drove us to the animal hospital & the dog is fine but I had to wash dog blood off my hand. Which is not that horrible in the grand scheme of things but not a thing I want to do again.

And then when I got home I was sitting in my living room in the dark with my shoes off wondering how my feet could possibly smell that bad...but when I turned on the light I saw the 3 bags of hockey equipment including goalie gear so that was pretty funny. It's true though goalie gear smells So. Much. Worse. than normal player gear it's amazing.

But what the hell was yesterday even trying to do?

And today they are finishing replacing our living room windows so I have fled to the wilds of downtown Boston to kill time before having lunch at Picco with Ms Corrupt & her dad who is in town very briefly & is an entertaining human. And it is super lovely out so I'm in a pretty good mood. :)

Bakery! I'm working three 10 hour days (Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday) & a normal day on Saturday so I can have Sunday, Monday, and Thursday off. My feet might fall off but it's pretty entertaining. I mean, working front of house at a bakery is customer service plus food and I have lots of customer service experience and like talking to people and food is awesome so...yay

Anyway, I'm also doing Somerville Open Studios May 2 & 3, 12pm-6 both days, at my house 68 Josephine Ave #2. So you should all come hang out at my house and look at art and eat cupcakes. You can look at some of my work here and here.

Bakery!!!

My friend S is opening a bakery in Melrose. We hope to open this Friday the 13th. But who knows because we're still waiting on a few things. I'll be working there full time once it opens.

SEEK Bakery & Cafe
1 Hurd Street
Melrose, MA

The hours, as far as I know now are:

Sunday 7:00am – 4:00pm
Monday 5:30am – 4:00pm
Tuesday 5:30am – 4:00pm
Wed 5:30am – 4:00pm
Thursday 5:30am – 8:00pm
Friday 5:30am – 8:00pm
Saturday 6:00am – 8:00pm

I will be working 7-3 Tuesday-Friday and 12-8 on Saturday.

It's right across from the Wyoming Hills commuter rail stop and a milk walk from Oak Grove.

I'm sort of terrified everything is going to end badly, because I am actually a very pessimistic person. I'm super negative and I don't like that about myself. I say all sorts of toxic shit to myself and out loud. It's a thing I really need to work on because I've been sort of spreading my bad mood around and that sucks.

But I'm pretty good at faking being a positive person when I need to. And I'm good with people, so I'll mostly charm people into buying the wonderful cupcakes, cookies, coffee & sandwiches we will be selling. And my co-workers are really great, competent people so I want to think this probably will work out. But I'm also sort of superstitious and anxious all the time. But J is a really good cook, C is very good at organizing things, and S makes the most amazing cakes, cupcakes, cake pops etc. and A makes really good coffee and pizza.

I keep meaning to post about how anxious and fucked up I'm feeling right now but then I end up just reading fanfic to try to make myself feel better. I feel like my communication skills are just...so bad right now. I am really excited about the bakery but also kind of terrified. I don't have a comfort zone. I worry about everything, it sucks. But hopefully once this gets going I'll be too busy? *sigh*

Greetings, everyone!

Charlestown Open Studios is December 6th and 7th, 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. The Stove Factory is located at 523 Medford St., Charlestown, MA and my studio space is on the 2nd floor. There are three floors of artists and craftspeople to visit.

I make detailed abstract watercolor cityscapes and the occasional ceramic bowl. I share my studio with Regina Schroeder, a paper maker & printer who has many clever and lovely printed objects as well as excellent hand-made paper for sale.

My art can be seen here

Regina’s art can be seen here and here

The Stove Factory is very close to Sullivan Station and the Schrafft's Building. There will be some parking available, but it is also fairly easy to get to The Stove Factory by public transportation, either by taking the bus or by taking the Orange Line to Sullivan Station. As a pedestrian, walk from Sullivan Station towards the Schrafft's building. Take care when navigating the cross walks at the rotary. Once you reach the Schrafft's building, take a right onto Main Street. Cross the old train tracks, cross Main Street towards the Fire Station, and then walk up Medford Street. You will be able to see signs for The Stove Factory.

If you have any questions please let me know.

Hope to see you there!

unexplained pain is really distressing...

So. last Wednesday morning (the day after my friend R made my hand feel better) I woke up with what felt like instant arthritis in my joints --wrists, elbows, ankles, the base of my fingers. It hurt to make a fist, it hurt to hold my arms at right angles. Instead of freaking out in my air conditioned room I decided to go to the studio. And as I moved around my joints began to feel better, not great but better. While at the studio my arms started to hurt in the usual way - hot pins-and-needles - so I decided to go for a walk to Home Depot/Assembly Sq. I had something to return at TJMaxx so I went there first. I ended up spending two hours in TJMAXX in some sort of daze because I wanted to find the perfect shirt for something and because they have the nicest AC I've ever encountered. It was not too hot, not too cool. I did eventually need to eat, and then I went and got buckets at home depot to soak my arms in. I made an appointment with my doctor for Friday and an appointment with my mom's chiropractor for next Tuesday because he takes my insurance so why not.

The next day I woke up and my joints hurt again, but not quite as bad as the day before. I did the things I needed to do and I felt better as the day went on. The next morning I woke up at 3:45 in a lot of pain. Ms. Corrupt was not entirely asleep and because she is a wonderful human being she went on a walk with me. We walked to the Dunky's in Magoun Sq, had horrible breakfast, walked all around that area and came home. And then we went to Revere Beach which I had never been to. It was awesome. When we got back I had stiffened up from being in the car but I was still feeling better because of the moving around and being distracted from freaking out.

I went to my doctor, who I love. She doesn't know what it is, but she had me go down to the awesome phlebotomist who took six vials of blood. The tests all came back negative. Well, I'm a little low in vitamin D so I'll get that take care of. The pain gradually faded over the weekend. I'm fine now, except for my usual pain, which I can deal with because I am used to it. Having new unexplained pain is really not good but at least it went away when I moved around.

So...does anyone have any ideas why this happened to me? I can't be the only one who gets freaking instant arthritis that goes away. I don't know what cause it so I don't know what I can do to make sure it never happens again.
