Pineapple Liberte yogurt is really weird. I would say I do not like it, and I love almost all their other flavors. I am going to finish it, because it is food and I am hungry.

Yesterday I went to my parents' house and helped my mom organize and sort and move things around so the house can be put on the market next week. I managed to walk 9 miles worth of steps, and I did a lot of running up and down the stairs so my legs kind of hurt today. But we got a lot done and I like hanging out with my mom so it was actually pretty enjoyable. Also, it turns out if you try to clean a whole pile of milk crates by spraying them with a hose you end up having to throw your clothes in the drier and wander around in borrowed clothes.

And [livejournal.com profile] rwatsoff is going to be showing up soon so we can grab lunch and go adventuring. I am always happy when professional conferences bring him and/or [livejournal.com profile] taliaferro within visiting range.

You guys! I just had five eggs (& toast & some home fries & fry bread) for breakfast. And I still feel a bit hungry. What. I mean, food is awesome, but that's a lot of eggs. And I totally had toast and tea earlier too. Being on vacation is hungry-making?

Also it is really pretty here. And I may have taken pictures of things in the grocery store as if I were visiting from another planet. Perhaps I should pretend I am visiting from another planet no matter where I am. But I have seriously never seen a bread slice thing where they have little wooden pieces of "bread" to show you the possible bread-slice thickness. Maybe I don't get out much?

Anyway...when the checkout lady asked us how were were doing I told her I was on vacation and that I was from Boston and she said "Why did you come here?" which made me laugh so much.

I may go out for a walk around the neighborhood, because everything is kind of awesome and different here. Different is such a good thing.

Arggghh I accidentally woke up at 5:15am what the everloving fuck.

So...Boskone has been fun. I have seen friends I have not seen I a while, and even if some of them are jerks, I still think they are pretty great.

I forgot how much I just...don't care about panels anymore. I mean, YA-related panels are pretty entertaining (but even that one was frustrating because they were all, oh, boys don't read and when they do don't want to read books about girls and I was like I know people who could say intelligent things about that but I am going to fail to do that), but everything is else is like "Oh, right, I've been going to cons since I was 16. I've been to this panel before. Bored now." Le sigh. (Also Boskone is not my favorite con for panels anyway so...whatevercakes.) But readings are still fun things, so there is that.

I managed to find a bunch of books for cheap. And then I spent actual money on more books. And today I need to get two more heavy books for Ms. Corrupt.

And then maybe I will go to the studio?

I left the con at before 10pm both Friday and Saturday because I was tired. How mature of me, yeah? Also, I've been kind of running myself ragged for no good reason so it's not wonder I am tired.

1) Last night when I came home from tai chi I had two freezer-burned waffles for dinner and then I turned on the AC in my room and folded all the socks. It had been perhaps a year since I had actually folded my socks all at once and so a great many of them languished in misery, separated from their mates. So...two hours of meditative sock folding. (It freed up a large laundry baskets and ensured that the actual sock basket was put in it's proper place. That's sort of like cleaning my room, right? Baby steps.)

I also found the missing fan and placed it on top of the cabinet above the oven. Air flow! Yay!


2) I have seen the light, and now truly realize that men's pants are far superior to women's. They have real, functional pockets instead of theoretical, useless pockets! I am wearing a pair of men's Wrangler cargo pants and let me tell you--there are a lot of pockets!!! So many pockets that I tend to misplace things, but that's because I am a flake cadet.

Where are my keys?
Where is my really rather dim phone?
Where is my little black notebook?
Where is my spoon?
Where is my Box Killer?

Wearing cargo pants is a bit like being surrounded by a purse, actually. So it makes sense that I can't find things.

3) Lunch today: olive bread torn off in chunks, roasted nut trail mix thingy (which I am eating at the reception desk*), a small bit of maple cotton candy. Maple cotton candy is awesome, you guys.

Crocuses! Yay! *ahem* Eh, whatever.

In other news, the delivery guy for one of our caterers frelling hid the food this morning. Like, he put his cart outside the farthest kitchen from the service elevator and then couldn't really remember where he'd parked it. Why would you do that? I mean, yeah, he'd never been here before but why didn't he just leave it by the elevator and come find us?

It's always something at this place. Ugh.

In other other news, at least I got some sleep last night? Yay. Also, we made tea eggs, only they might be really horrifying because someone added a lot of cinnamon. Or they might be more awesome. We shall see.

Things I forgot today:

1) My belt. Lucky I have a spare in my desk. All my corduroys are kind of too big for me & I need to have my belt pouch on an actual belt.

2) My quiche that I was going to have for dinner because I am going to a movie thingy after work so I should eat first.


Also, I am really, really tired. And I didn't get as much done last night as I meant to, & I could only find one yaktrack & I thought wearing just one would be a little odd, but I did do a load of laundry, so yay clean clothes!

Also also, apparently Sarah Shahi has a new show out this week called Fairly Legal and wow will I be watching that. Nothing will ever be as good as Life, but she is so so awesome. Maybe her new show will be decent?

If I have done anything to hurt or offend any of you in the past year please forgive me, and please tell me what I did so that I can try to fix it.


I made a really awesome experimental carrot-sweet potato-apple tsimmes (turns out it's hard to screw up when making tsimmes) for a shindig tonight and it was cancelled. So now I have a lot of tsimmes. Tsimmes is totally dinner. And desert. But I still need to make pasta to go with the tomato-zucchini sauce I made earlier in the week. So many veggies!!!

(I take great joy in feeding my British housemate yummy Jewish foods. He's never had any of them before and he likes them a lot. Plus, he needs some meat on his bones.)

And now begins the week where I listen to Who By Fire a lot. I heart Leonard Cohen.

My arms are hurting me a lot again (combo of bad posture & computer habits + extra work at the reception desk + extreme heat = pain) so I shouldn't even be typing this but:

I cooked something yummy for dinner for myself for the first time in a long time. I picked up my friend Amy's farmshare this week* and there was this gigantic bunch of Swiss chard that would not fit in the fridge so I was forced to cook it. And then I made quinoa, and then I realized that I desperately needed some cheese on top so I walked down to the local liquor store and there I got cheese and also I ran into my neighbor C (the one who helped me rescue myself from the 2nd floor porch a few summers ago) and we chatted and then she told me how her yard is all over collard greens and I should totally take some. So...a close source of endless free collard greens is pretty nifty.

And now my hands really hurt. Yes, I have made a doctor's appointment. This time when I go to occupational therapy I promise I will keep doing my exercises even when things don't hurt as much.

(Seriously: all the heat we've been having is causing me physical pain. Perhaps I was meant to live in the far north. Ugh.)

*I spread the haul out on the kitchen counter and took photos. So. Many. Veggies.

It was ridiculously warm out today. 70s in early April. Oh, MA. So of course I took myself and my new boots and I walked all the fuck over Camberville (with plenty of sunscreen on). I went to the bank and then I poked around a bit in Davis and then I hopped on the T and went to the Fresh Pond Whole Foods and the whole time I was listening to Rhett Miller/Old 97s and mouthing along to the words and tapping my feet and being a huge dork in public. So...typical me.

At the Whole Foods I got lots of fresh fruit because I am going to a seder tomorrow (random seders are kind of fun, yo) and I am making a green salad with lots of fruit in and I think it will be super yummy. Also: I totally did the flaky thing and got myself a sandwich with bread for lunch and I bit into it and then was like "you dummy! no bread! oh well. thank you god for freeing me from slavery in Egypt that was awfully thoughtful. and also thank you for the wonderful egg salad sandwich."

And then I came home and my feet hated me (new shoes + my eleventy billion plantar warts = ouch) and then I realized that what I really needed was a nap. So I slept from about 3pm to 6pm and that was kind of...nice. And then I woke up and drank a lot of water.

So...how's by you?

I think I have a head cold. Or else it's just all the dust I no doubt inhaled when I beat back the chaos monkey demon army that lives in my room. They keep throwing cursed bananas at me and I frelling hate bananas even when they aren't cursed. Yargh.

Will stand far back from Great Aunt Helen when I go to visit her with my parents this evening.

Made lemon ricotta cookies again. Still awesome, but with less OMG-I-will-fuck-this-up-and-then-the-world-will-end panicking this time. Neato.

Thing we still somehow do not have in our kitchen:

a whisk (seriously what is wrong with us?)


Also: Ms. Corrupt and TCD made amazing, fantabulous pear bread, which is a work of great food magic as far as I am concerned. They also made gloriously yummy, sweet adzuki-bean-filled bao. Ms. Corrupt and I kept making Firefly references, because we are dorktastic, and TCD has not seen it (a crime, we know) and we all laughed at each other a lot. (The bao were almost too cute to eat. But we overcame their cuteness and consumed quite a few. Yummy cute bao.)

If I survive this week and then next week I will be really surprised, actually. It's going to be awesome house guest + amazing concert + Upstairs on the Square + amazing concert + passover (which is one of my favorite holidays!) = death. Um. *is a bit more loopy than usual*

sweet potato, mashed: so bright orange and sweet and *flails*

pretzels: so much better than even the very best potato chip!


List of foods that I never forget are really amazing:

yogurt: yummy & makes my tummy feel better when nothing else works

kefir: so conveniently drinkable, also see above

dark-chocolate-covered molasses chips: best combo of sweet and salty invented so far

baby pumpkin with garlic and sugar sauce: so incredibly yummy


Obviously this is just all I can think of right now. More later?

Thank God its Friday. I was kind of ready to go home and take a nap by 11am so...yargh. But tonight I have yummy dinner with my fambly and I am actually enjoying my crazy job, even though it is crazy, so that's good. And last night I did do some fabric painting and I am pleased with the results. And there will be cake this afternoon and...it's all okay.

Step 1. Make a mug of Chai Black tea with milk and sugar.
Step 2. Pour a glass of water.
Step 3. Take out a packet of Super Orange Emergen-C to put in the water.
Step 4. Accidentally pour the packet of Emergen-C into the tea instead.

The result doesn't taste very good, in case you were wondering.

Happy October!!!!!! It's my birthday month and I love it. *jumps up and down*

I'm not a very grownup grownup, you guys. Excellent.

Everyone at work has expressed variations of: "Oh noes, Autumn is here, which means Winter will be here soon *sob*" and I refuse dislike Autumn just because Winter is on occasion vile and disgusting.

October is the best month. All other months are less amazing.


Tonight I am being spoiled by friends who are taking me to Oleana, where I have never been. And then tomorrow night I am going with my parents and brother to Sabur, which is yummy good wonderful comfort food. Wheeee, good food.

Also I got the new "7 Worlds Collide" double CD last night, but because the Internets are Very Distracting & Evil (and my ten year old cd player is acting up) I didn't actually listen to it yet, which is kind of idiotic of me because I'm pretty excited about this new music as it is Neil Finn and a whole lot of other awesome people being awesome. Tonight after yummy food: listen to music, go to bed early. That's the plan, anyway.

So. I cooked food, even though it is beastly awful out. And in. Because the kale was going to go bad on me. But now kale-red beans-white beans-tofu-onions with tamari thing is cooling. So as a reward for all that hard work I am sitting in my air conditioned room eating chocolate chip ice cream for dinner. Yumm.

Seriously, it is shave your head weather. Not that I will actually shave my head.

Because I am classy like that I am having a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a glass of red wine. The bottle was almost empty and it is too hot to eat real food. Or...I'm not all that hungry but I should eat something and hey...wine. It's actually kind of a yummy combo. *shrug*

I really need to do more packing for worldcon...

I made really yummy mashed red bliss potatoes with onion, garlic scamps, and kale. Because the potatoes were elderly and needed to be made into something before they ended up in [livejournal.com profile] asciikitty's compost like all the other potatoes I have acquired over the last several months.

Patrick Wolf is awesome cooking music. But any good music is good to cook to, so...*shrug*


Now I have to decide if I can stand cleaning my room a bit or if I should just go work on an art project instead. Art will probably win. Oh! I know...I should see if those pens I have are really waterproof and if my wicked old water colors are still good enough to use. Fuck I have not done watercolors in ten years and I used to watercolor all the time. Lots of really crazy watercolored dragons with many, many tiny scales. Because I was pretty batshit insane and dorky even back in high school.

I don't know, you guys. I'm turning into a person that really doesn't like to buy things. Which is awesome! Because lord knows that I don't actually need more things. (I sometimes joke about burning all my stuff, because I tend to trip over it a lot.) But also sort of weird, because I am used to a sort of frugal retail therapy where I go to used clothing stores and find new-to-me trousers that fit and feel all accomplished. But lately all I want to do is go home, cook something yummy and then faff about doing art. (I mean, I did just buy a computer, so to some extent I am feeling horrifyingly broke...but I'm not feeling resentful. It's not that I really want to go out and buy stuff but am holding myself back. It's nice.)

Speaking of art: does anyone know where around Boston I could get really wide waxed paper? Like...maybe 3 feet wide? Some sort of kitchen supply store I guess.

I just ate my leftover kale-and-bean thing and it was yummy but now I just want to go get more kale.

I made yummy yummy kale-and-white-bean thing last night--I had some at [livejournal.com profile] mobledqueen's place last week and wanted to make some for myself. It was very, very good and easy to make. There was enough left over for me to have lunch for today and also for [livejournal.com profile] corruptviridian and [livejournal.com profile] asciikitty to have some. It was a really big pot of kale-and-white-bean thing. Plus, the quinoa.

And then! There were also kale chips, because they brought home kale too. Kale chips are amazing. So much kale! I think kale might be my favorite veggie now.

I am going strawberry picking on Sunday with [livejournal.com profile] msackton and Amy S. Don't know where yet. Mmmmm, strawberries.
