Somerville Open Studios April 29, 30, & May 1st

I recently joined And/Or, an arts collective located at 35 Kidder Ave, Somerville, right down the street from my old location. It’s #13 on the Somerville Open Studios map, and a short walk from Davis Square. It’s a wonderful group of artists and I’m really excited to display my work along side theirs.

We are also open on Friday night April 29th 6pm-9pm as a sort of preview although I might be running around in a panic. I’ve never been open Friday night before so that will be new.

Somerville Open Studios May 2 & 3

Bakery! I'm working three 10 hour days (Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday) & a normal day on Saturday so I can have Sunday, Monday, and Thursday off. My feet might fall off but it's pretty entertaining. I mean, working front of house at a bakery is customer service plus food and I have lots of customer service experience and like talking to people and food is awesome so...yay

Anyway, I'm also doing Somerville Open Studios May 2 & 3, 12pm-6 both days, at my house 68 Josephine Ave #2. So you should all come hang out at my house and look at art and eat cupcakes. You can look at some of my work here and here.

Greetings, everyone!

Charlestown Open Studios is December 6th and 7th, 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. The Stove Factory is located at 523 Medford St., Charlestown, MA and my studio space is on the 2nd floor. There are three floors of artists and craftspeople to visit.

I make detailed abstract watercolor cityscapes and the occasional ceramic bowl. I share my studio with Regina Schroeder, a paper maker & printer who has many clever and lovely printed objects as well as excellent hand-made paper for sale.

The Stove Factory is very close to Sullivan Station and the Schrafft's Building. There will be some parking available, but it is also fairly easy to get to The Stove Factory by public transportation, either by taking the bus or by taking the Orange Line to Sullivan Station. As a pedestrian, walk from Sullivan Station towards the Schrafft's building. Take care when navigating the cross walks at the rotary. Once you reach the Schrafft's building, take a right onto Main Street. Cross the old train tracks, cross Main Street towards the Fire Station, and then walk up Medford Street. You will be able to see signs for The Stove Factory.

The Stove Factory is kicking off Charlestown Open Studios on December 7th and 8th, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. We are located at 523 Medford St., Charlestown, MA. My studio space is on the 2nd floor. The Artists Group of Charlestown is headquartered on the 1st floor.

I make detailed abstract watercolor cityscapes and things that look like alien amoebas. I share studio space with many talented artists and craftspeople, including paper maker & printer corruptviridian. She has many clever and lovely printed objects for sale as well as some really excellent hand made paper.

Come watch colonial printing!

You should all visit corruptviridian tomorrow at The Printing Office of Edes & Gill, where she will be printing in the colonial fashion on a fantastic and sexy printing press, dressed in colonial garb. 11am - 5:30pm. It's right next to the Old North Church. She will there every Wednesday through the end of the month. If you can't make Wednesday other people print on other days - Gary, the guy who runs the shop - is very entertaining. It closes for the season at the end of October.

This is the class for you! Come learn some alternative ways to get textures, backgrounds, shapes and letters on your letterpress prints with easy to find items and easy to learn techniques!

Previous Letterpress experience is required. Wear closed-toe shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting a little inky.

About our guest instructor:
Megan L. King graduated from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in 2008 with her Bachelor of Fine Arts. After graduating, she worked with Rob Charlton at Goosefish Press in Boston, MA until in 2010, she moved to Atlanta, GA and started her own letterpress shop called MLK&toast. In 2011, she ran a successful kickstarter campaign to fund a series of letterpress posters and she did a two-month internship at Hatch Show Print in Nashville, TN. Her work has been featured at 2Rules Gallery in Marietta, GA and at Goosefish Press in Boston, MA. She has also been a designer on Fab.com. She recently moved her shop into a studio space just east of Atlanta and is applying to graduate schools. Another quick and painless reminder:

Charlestown Open Studios is today! Come see my art and the art of others at The Stove Factory! 523 Medford Street, Charlestown, MA! It will be awesome! Don't let the adorable snowflakes stop you now! Also I am wearing a wacky outfit! Hopefully not too wacky. I will have cookies and there will be mulled cider.

And there will be printing! On a Vandercook SP-20! Which is an excellent press for printing on! I will be sitting in a corner doing watercolors which is not as exciting to watch.

So...I've been listening to the audiobook of The Hunger Games and it's interesting. I like some of it but I am not entirely won over. Also, I keep wincing at the grammatical errors. I don't know if it's the writer or the reader and I guess Katniss might not have the best grammar ever but it's distracting. I am still waiting to get hooked. *shrug*

It really is fascinating to me how as soon as we got back to March-appropriate weather (40s and 50s, cold at night) my hands and arms stopped hurting. I am such a fucking special snowflake princess. Ugh.

This week at work has already been way too long and crazy and it's only Wednesday. I am not amused.

I did end up walking 18,000 steps on Monday. Whatever I do next I really do need something that keeps me on my feet and moving all day long.

There will probably be other signs as well.

(I live in Ball Sq and take the 89 to Sullivan, which is about a 20 minute ride, and then walk to my studio. But depending on where you are coming from, taking the T might be easier, especially on the weekends.)

Took a pronto plate workshop this weekend. Amazingly awesome art! I was so focussed on learning new things that I didn't talk much at all which amused TR who was taking the class with me. I got some good prints out of it and now I'm hooked. Oh, well.

Have lots to do, but am too fucking tired to deal right now so I think I will go to bed and then tomorrow I will get everything done.

I am about to walk nearly three miles to my studio (because bus service on Sunday suuuuuuucks) in 80ish degree weather and one of my feet hates me (I must have pulled a muscle in the top of it somehow). Also will be carrying backpack full of nice dress slacks what don't fit me anymore so that the lovely MKC can have them. Will wear sunscreen (wonder if I have a hat somewhere?). Will bring water. Will try not to walk as fast as I normally do. Will probably not succeed. I am horrible at walking slowly in the heat the way normal people do.

I already want it to be autumn. Or at the very least September.
