Hey Boston area folks-

I have an extra ticket to see KMFDM tomorrow night October 30th at The Paradise. Doors at 8pm. Email me at farwing2000 at yahoo if you are interested. (I am going with Ms. Corrupt & our friend Sofie.)

Edit: ticket claimed by a hilarious co-worker.
Last year I made my dad a mix of all the Grateful Dead songs having to do with gambling that we could thing of. He wanted something to listen to while he and his buddies played poker, because he is adorable like that. Anyway...yes. I was raised by Dead Heads.

Anyway...it is so cold I wore my new flannel lined cargo pants of awesome. Even though I will be too hot later on when I am running around a lot.

Uh...I had a nice Winter Holiday Combo Event Extravaganza thingy with my family. We exchanged presents, went to see Hugo (which was adorable and shiny), went out for Indian food, and then came home to light the Chanukah candles.

And then the next day I dragged my parents out to have lunch with Ms. Corrupt and her parents because our parents are awesome and they had never met. Fun was had. Then I tagged along after Ms. Corrupt and her parents and we went to Castle Island (which I had never been too even though I'm from here) and it was cold but awesome.

And I just misread this Groupon offer: Up to Half Off One-Night Stay at Royalton Suites. I was all...um what? Oh! One night stay! I got it now!

I think other entertaining stuff has happened but I can't think of it right now.

Oh, yeah this: I was talking about the BBC Sherlock and I couldn't think of Lestrad's name so I said Detective Inspector Lestat, which...would be interesting, yes? I mean there are already so many fics where everyone is a vampire so...whatever, but I am entertained. Like, I say it to myself and start giggling.

Hope everyone else is as easily entertained as I am! *hugs*
Hey there Boston-area folks! I have two extra tickets to the Airborne Toxic Event concert at The Orpheum on November 19th. $32 each. I saw them this summer and they put on a really good show and are also kind of adorable. Plus, cute chick playing the viola! What's not to love?

Leave a comment here if you are interested!

Hey there everybody. Still in Austin. Still having an awesome time. Most fun amazing music so far was Jeremy Messersmith. Ms. Callisto & I sat on the floor in front of the tiny stage and grinned like lunatics. There may have been actual *chinhands*. We tried to stop ourselves from smiling (my face was beginning to hurt, okay?) but it was not possible to do so. So much adorableness! Plus, there was a string quartet and *hearteyes*

(we also quite enjoyed bands Fredrik and Aphasia)

Also met up with a friend from writing camp, which was fun!

In other news, I am too old for this shit and I can't un-dayshift and when I get back to Boston I might be sleep deprived until forever. So...fair warning. (Tonight we will be staying up waaay past my bedtime. Hope I make it. Send good stay-awake magic vibes please.)

Also! Happy Saint Patrick's Day to all that care!

Happy birthday to my sister Lou! Have a great day!

It was ridiculously warm out today. 70s in early April. Oh, MA. So of course I took myself and my new boots and I walked all the fuck over Camberville (with plenty of sunscreen on). I went to the bank and then I poked around a bit in Davis and then I hopped on the T and went to the Fresh Pond Whole Foods and the whole time I was listening to Rhett Miller/Old 97s and mouthing along to the words and tapping my feet and being a huge dork in public. So...typical me.

At the Whole Foods I got lots of fresh fruit because I am going to a seder tomorrow (random seders are kind of fun, yo) and I am making a green salad with lots of fruit in and I think it will be super yummy. Also: I totally did the flaky thing and got myself a sandwich with bread for lunch and I bit into it and then was like "you dummy! no bread! oh well. thank you god for freeing me from slavery in Egypt that was awfully thoughtful. and also thank you for the wonderful egg salad sandwich."

And then I came home and my feet hated me (new shoes + my eleventy billion plantar warts = ouch) and then I realized that what I really needed was a nap. So I slept from about 3pm to 6pm and that was kind of...nice. And then I woke up and drank a lot of water.

So...how's by you?

Dear Internets:

I am addicted to you. I think we should spend some time apart. But...that requires will power. Fuck.

I went to a Dropkick Murphys concert last night with [livejournal.com profile] doma and it was fun. We had gone to a bar with [livejouranl.com profile] twitch124 beforehand but we only had one drink each. Unlike everyone else on the green line last night. It was Public Transportation Theatre indeed. It went something like this:

Very Cheerful Very Drunk Guy to the entire train: "Are you having fun?"
farwing: "Of course! What's to prevent us?"
VCVDG: "Let me give you a high five for that answer!"
farwing: "Sure!"

VCVDG: "I'm from New Hampshire! We hang from subway polls like this!"
farwing: "Do you have different gravity in New Hampshire?"
VCVDG: "Yes! Because we don't have taxes!"
farwing: "Oh, is that what holds us down here?!"

VCVDG: "Are you really going to the Dropkick Murphys concert too?"
farwing: "Yes. Really."

His much more sober friend was all "yeah, he's kind of more sober than usual right now." which was...worrying. But at least he had a friend along.

The Dropkick Murphys concert was where all the drunks in Boston were headed last night, dontchaknow. And then we sold our extra tickets to drunk people outside the venue. One guy to whom we sold a ticket insisted I call him my Cousin Brian. Although I am half Irish, I do not actually have a cousin Brian. In fact....I don't think I am related to anyone named Brian.

Not My Cousin Brian: "Can I buy you a drink?"
farwing: "No, thank you. We are as un-sober as we wish to be."

Also: I am not used to being the tall one in my concert-going group. There were some assholes who insisted on sexydancing (with lots of elbows and a plastic cup of beer) right in our space. I had to glare holes at them a lot. doma was very good at sticking her elbows out defensively. There was also a guy behind us who was doing his fair share of glaring at them as well, which was nice.

Coming home from the T last night was...wet. Umbrellas are pretty much useless in Boston, but a nice long trench coat would be quite helpful, I think.

Yargh it is my sister Lou's birthday on Wednesday (yes, St. Patrick's Day) and I should really get a birthday package ready for her. Also remember to call her on the day. I'm probably not the worst sister ever, right? Just the flakiest.

To do list:

1. Eat more food more often--don't let the internet distract me from breakfast/lunch/dinner. (Today I had breakfast, and lunch, and there were witnesses to me having dinner tonight. I should probably try snacking again. I might be one of the worst grownups ever.)

2. Do check my nice Moleskine calendar more frequently. If I write things down in it and then don't look at it again for two weeks, I will get disappointed phone calls from my shrink.

3. Clean my room, no matter how charming Hilarious British Housemate thinks it is. He said that he liked my mess better than his mess because my mess looked more lived in. *weeps* Honey, I've lived here for five years. My mess has had a lot of time to practice.

4. Go to bed.

In unrelated news: Tom McRae is still made of magic. Plus, his new album is really excellent. I'm particularly fond of "Won't Lie", but I'm feeling a bit bloodthirsty. There are so many other really wonderful songs. If only I didn't have to fly to the UK to see him live....grrr. So...you should all go out and buy The Alphabet of Hurricanes however you can.

So. On Sunday night [livejournal.com profile] twitch124 and I went to see Liam Finn and Eliza Jane at The Middle East. Liam and EJ were awesome and manic and hilarious. The opening bands...not so much.

Forest Fires- the music would have just been kind of boring 70s soft rock if not for the lead singer, who insisted on introducing his songs, thus revealing his status as a pretentious douchebag. twitch124 and I stayed up front for a few songs and then moved to the back of the room, the better to hear each other be judgmental bitches.

twitch124: "The douchebag scale is linear, not logarithmic. Don't break the douchebag scale!"

Pretentious Douchebag: "This song is called 'I Will Make You Love Me.'"
farwing: "No you won't."

Then Miracle Fortress arrived on the scene. Um. He was kind of hilarious is a New Wave "did I just time travel back to 1978?" kind of way. Lots of strobe, colored lights, and incomprehensible wailing vocals. It was very, very funny to me but I had consumed 1.5 gin and tonics by this point. twitch124 said that she figured his usual audience was all on E, because that would explain the strobe lights.

twitch124: "Oh my god its 1983. Oh, no. It stopped."

twitch124: "He's totally an act you need to see live and shit faced."

So then Liam and Eliza Jane got on stage and they were wonderful. I kind of didn't take good notes on the set list at first because I was being lazy but then they played Red Wine Bottle and I started taking notes:

Red Wine Bottle (This is a song from the 7 Worlds Collide: The Sun Came Out album, which you might know if you stalk all members of the Finn family like I do. It was wonderful to hear live.)

"Introducing Harry the Auto Harp" song (They are such goofballs!)

Helter Skelter. (Dude, that was awesome. Really, really awesome. After the song ended Liam was all "Er...what song do you play after Helter Skelter?")

Wise Man
Second Chance
Lead Balloon

"I'm more of a werewolf"

Cinnamon Girl (cover)
an old Betchadupa song
Honest Face
Fire in Your Belly

I'm very glad I keep one window free of plastic (I put a foam block in the window to keep out the cold) because it is ridiculously nice out today. OMG, I want it to be this awesomely windy and warm for at least a week. Warm and windy is my favorite. Also thunder storms and snow storms. Anything with wind is my favorite, I guess. Yay, weather!

Last night I found "Just Like Blood" (yay!TomMcRae!) used at Newbury Comics, which just about made my life. It turns out that if I am lazy enough that I don't actually bother to order things used from Amazon I end up finding them used in person. Yes, I am too lazy to order things from the internet. This saves me a lot of money, I figure.

I need to go paint things while listening to Tom McRae now. And then maybe I will go for another walk.

Murder by Death = awesome. Kind of a combo of big band and southern rock and...other stuff? I dunno...I had heard of them but had never heard them. Lead singer has an awesome voice. Would see again.

The Gaslight Anthem = still awesome. Also:

Dear Brian Fallon:

You always look like you are having all the fun and that makes me enjoy your concerts even more. (You were grinning so hard tonight it was pretty darn adorable.) Keep it up!

musical love and enthusiasm,

yeah...I'm gonna go to bed now.

Those little "no box cutter" signs that the coffee pod company prints on the outside of the coffee box cases amuse me every time I see them. Because I totally use my useful little key chain knife to open the boxes. I'm such a rebel, you guys.

I feel like I smoked an entire carton of dust ball cigarettes yesterday. Perhaps I should clean my room more often? (My mom is a room-cleaning superhero and I could not have done it without her help.)

Have I mentioned that I have been listening to Yoav's album "Charmed and Strange" a lot? Because I have been. It is kind of amazing and happy-making and I'm worried that if I keep listening to it over and over again I will end up hating it but...so awesome. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] jencallisto for the rec.

Also I have painted my nails a pleasing shade of peacock blue.

I know there was more I was going to say but...*shrug*
...but it might help. Ugh. This whole leaving the house at 7:00 is something I will have to adjust to. And I'm kind of a morning person. And leaving at 4:30 is just weird, so far. Mostly because I have to give D a break at 4 and by the time she gets back from that I have 15 minutes to be productive. Ha.

But the moon has been out in the mornings on my walk to work so that's pretty cool.

Also: the new 7 Worlds Collide: The Sun Came Out double album is pretty nifty.

I should go hide in the storage room go do more work-like things now. ttfn!

ps I had a very nice birthday weekend.

Happy October!!!!!! It's my birthday month and I love it. *jumps up and down*

I'm not a very grownup grownup, you guys. Excellent.

Everyone at work has expressed variations of: "Oh noes, Autumn is here, which means Winter will be here soon *sob*" and I refuse dislike Autumn just because Winter is on occasion vile and disgusting.

October is the best month. All other months are less amazing.

Tonight I am being spoiled by friends who are taking me to Oleana, where I have never been. And then tomorrow night I am going with my parents and brother to Sabur, which is yummy good wonderful comfort food. Wheeee, good food.

Also I got the new "7 Worlds Collide" double CD last night, but because the Internets are Very Distracting & Evil (and my ten year old cd player is acting up) I didn't actually listen to it yet, which is kind of idiotic of me because I'm pretty excited about this new music as it is Neil Finn and a whole lot of other awesome people being awesome. Tonight after yummy food: listen to music, go to bed early. That's the plan, anyway.

Happy Birthday to the incomparable and amazing Ms. [livejournal.com profile] mobledqueen!!!

Dear Split Enz:

Thank you for being such wacky/awesome/perfect get-my-butt-moving-in-the-morning music.

Dear Friday:

I love you. Even if I did wake up at 4:22 in the morning freezing cold and with cramps. I have a space heater and...who needs sleep, really?

somewhat exhausted love,

Dear Autumn:

Stay forever and never leave me again. Summer and Winter and Spring can go hang.

your biggest fan,

So...L'shanah tovah to all those that know what that means! I'll be going off to Lexington tonight through tomorrow for services with my parents and little brother. Be good and/or have fun!

I made really yummy mashed red bliss potatoes with onion, garlic scamps, and kale. Because the potatoes were elderly and needed to be made into something before they ended up in [livejournal.com profile] asciikitty's compost like all the other potatoes I have acquired over the last several months.

Patrick Wolf is awesome cooking music. But any good music is good to cook to, so...*shrug*

Now I have to decide if I can stand cleaning my room a bit or if I should just go work on an art project instead. Art will probably win. Oh! I know...I should see if those pens I have are really waterproof and if my wicked old water colors are still good enough to use. Fuck I have not done watercolors in ten years and I used to watercolor all the time. Lots of really crazy watercolored dragons with many, many tiny scales. Because I was pretty batshit insane and dorky even back in high school.

I just saw Patrick Wolf in concert. He was amazing. Best $12 I have ever spent. Also, he was wearing a grayscale Union Jack jumpsuit. (Well, first he was wearing a cape over that which looked like it had been developed in the Jim Henson Creature Shop.) I spent nearly the entire set grinning in delight.
